HOLLAND 24 | BISEXUAL | HAIRDRESSER | TOWNSFOLK | SUMMER GLAU the story of miss serena holland starts all the way back in the year nineteen eighty eight. that's right, she wasn't quite born at that stage, but she was planned, in a way. jonathan holland was a horrible man, he had raped many women and had forced them to have his children, odd i know. yes, he should have been arrested and maybe even shot, but the police wouldn't touch him, you see he resided in hong kong and had more than half of the police department in his pocket, he was pretty much untouchable. one day he came across a woman that he found to be different to the rest, at least different to the one's that he had experienced recently. she was beautiful and kind, there was something about her that made him think, shocking i know, and he vowed to attempt to woo her, be romantic and shit. it was something that he hadn't done for a while, yet he was determined to win her heart. despite this he continued on with the other women but it was never mentioned to her. he finally won her heart in the sixth month of nineteen eighty nine and moved to america with her, of course this meant that he had to leave his life behind him, become a new man. he began to go by jon and began his new life in the city of los angeles. he blended easily as he was a white man, as you may have guessed from his name, and his accent was mostly american as he was born in the states and only moved to hong kong ten years beforehand. he lived a good life with his new wife, they married the week they found themselves in america, and within two months a baby girl was on the way. now, what you and everyone else didn't know was that he had somewhat planned this, to make a new life for himself somewhere other than hong kong, to do his best to own someone's life elsewhere, but only the one. he did have feelings for this woman, but he couldn't leave the abusive, horrid ways behind. after february seventeenth his true self came out to play, this was when his lovely daughter was born. he returned to his abusive ways, beating on his wife from almost the very day that she returned from the hospital. he took control of her life, she wasn't allowed to leave the house unless he was with her and she was ordered around like a slave for the next twenty one years. as was previously mentioned, serena came into the world on february seventeenth. she was loved, but even from the start she wasn't too fond of her father, she would cry when he held her and sob when he was even in the room. because of this it wasn't comfortable to have the two of them in the same room too often and he had her pretty much locked in a single room with her mother until she was almost ten. there wasn't a lot of contact with the outside world for her until she hit high school, reasons for that will come later on, she spent those first fifteen-ish years locked up in a room. despite this she was rather intelligent, academically anyway, she was home schooled by her mother, who was able to bring in a tutor often to help out, and she developed herself fairly well considering. from the time that she was nine her father had beat her, at the beginning it wasn't so bad but as she aged it got worse. it wasn't only physical either, he was very emotionally abusive as well. her childhood was simply full of abuse, solitude and artificial light. the first time she went outside, at least the first time that she can remember, was when she was eleven. her mother had to do a grocery run and she was permitted to take her daughter along. the whole time serena was staring at the sky, in a way she was trying to drag her attention away from the crowds of people around her, never before had she seen so many people, it was all very strange to her. this only happened another three times before the family was picked up and moved to some place called brunswick. of course serena's mother had no say in the matter and when serena was thirteen they had relocated and she had seen more than she had ever seen before, the countryside, other towns, rivers, lakes and a whole lot more. the next year of her life proceeded on just as her previous years had, abuse, solitude and artificial light became her life again. she was almost fifteen when her mother managed to sneak out of the house, jon had always worked from home and somehow managed to keep track of both of his girls. she had managed to climb out of a window while he was beating on serena and she ran for the police station, which surprisingly wasn't too far away from their house. she had bruises and cut on her to show them as evidence of his wicked ways and they quickly organised something of an inspection of the house on those grounds. with a warrant in hand an inspector pushed his way into their house and was quick to discover serena with fresh cuts on her. jon was quickly arrested and the two females were taken to the station and were found a place to live temporarily as serena was cared for by a nurse and her mother was questioned and also taken care of. by the time that everything had been processed and such the whole town knew of the ordeal, it was also time for freshman year to begin. serena was terrified, she had never been to an actual school before. really she should have been pulled back a year or so but because of her intelligence they decided to keep her with her age ground as she was at their level. she started her freshman year with almost all the students knowing who she was and what she had been through. she found out the hard way that teenagers and high school were both a bitch. she didn't have much, any really, life experience so she was scared as all hell and didn't know how she was supposed to act and what not. almost everyone shunned her and didn't want anything to do with her. she was convinced that she would never make friends and went home to her mother after the first day in tears. but her mother reassured her that it would get better, she just needed to endure the tough times. during her second week she witnessed a group of guys beating on a smaller male, after going through what she had she knew that it was wrong to beat on someone and she rushed over to them and told them to stop. they laughed at her and threw the guy on the ground and walked away, they too didn't want anything to do with her. she was quick to help the guy up and ask if he was okay. he thanked her and ran off, it seemed that even he didn't want to talk to her. she was sad about the whole situation but her hopes were renewed when the same guy approached her the next day and apologised for running off, explaining that he had to get to detention or he would have been in a lot more trouble than he already was in. from that day the pair were best friends. he was he first friend and she cared about him more than anything else at that stupid school. she didn't make too many more friends during her time in high school, there were a few friends here and there but none were as close and important as that first one. most of her high school life was spent being ignored or picked on by almost everyone in her grade and even some in other grades. over time she learned to ignore them and get on with her life. despite her attempts to ignore them all the time she was often tricked and believed certain things simply because she didn't know a lot about life outside of her house. the fact that she was gullible spread through the school like wildfire and she was being tricked in some way most days, over time she realised that a lot of them were pranks but at times she would still be the gullible thing that she was, and still is to this day. because of the treatment that she received in high school she can be rather blunt, more so when you seem to be the type to use her or simply if you look frightening. she'd not too fond of people with tattoos just because to her they look frightening, but get to know her and prove that you aren't scary then you'll be fine. the day before her final high school finals is a day that she will never forget. her and the rest of her grade were under a lot of pressure because of them, some cracked under the pressure, but she was calm and knew that she could do well. that was until the news that her best friend had hung himself from the balcony of his family home. to this day she doesn't know what caused him to do such a thing, she hoped that it was nothing that she had done even though there was nothing that she could have done that would have caused such a thing. everyone put it down to bullying coupled with the stress of finals. she lost her best friend that day and she will never forget him. despite this she got one of the best results in the country in her finals and was offered positions on many universities but she turned them all down. she had made the decision to stay in brunswick where she knew everyone and felt at least somewhat safe. she enrolled in a hairdressing course as soon as she finished school. hairdressing was the only thing she wanted to do, maybe it was because she didn't have a normal childhood where most kids have dreams about what they want to be when they're older, she never had any desire to do anything but. the most likely reason behind her career choice was that she and her mother had often played with one another's hair, doing fancy and messy things with it. it was something that serena had loved about her childhood, or really it just made her think of her mother and how amazing the woman was. her mother was her hero, she had saved her from a horrid life and brought her into the world, in more ways than one. her mother died about a year ago, she had had cancer and had neglected to tell anyone about it or to do anything about it. serena was devastated and had spent an entire week inside her house, not leaving for anything. after that week she managed to venture out, go back to work and find her way in life without the one person she knew that she could always rely on. it took her a few months to be able to go a day without getting upset about the loss of her mother, but after those few months she was back to her usual self, at least mostly. it was about six months ago, the night of her twenty-fourth birthday, a friend had convinced her to go out to a club for her birthday and have some fun, it wasn't something that she ever did. she was having a great time, she didn't drink much but it was enough to skew her judgement a little, a lovely man asked her if she wanted a drink. she was hesitant at first, but he seemed like a decent guy. to put a long story short, he took advantage of her naivety and then took advantage of her. it is a night that she will never forget and a secret that she doesn't want to share with anyone. she hasn't seen that guy again, she knows nothing about him and really she doesn't want to see him again. in the last few months she has moved house, or well apartments, and now lives in a nice two bedroom apartment close to the shopping district of brunswick, fairly close to her place of work. she's working on her issues but they're not really things that one can simply toss to the side, what she's been through is a lot worse than what a lot of others have been through. she's fairly content with her life, there's really nothing she wants to change about it.
