MASSARI 18 YEARS | STRAIGHT | NONE| HS STUDENT | GRACE PHIPPS Cleopatra, the name sounds familiar doesn’t it? But no, I’m not talking about the queen of Egypt, even though Cleo is of Egyptian descent. Cleopatra was the first born child of two Egyptian immigrants, both of which had come to America in search of the American dream as many immigrants often did. However, when her mother’s dreams of being an actress turned up as nonexistent, they somehow ended up in Brunswick, Maine. Not long after, Cleopatra Clarine Massari was born. Being the first born, she got the treatment of any first born in America. She was spoiled, given everything she was asked for, except she only got to enjoy it for about a year. Because then, Berenice was conceived. Cleopatra was much too young to understand what had happened, much too young to care that the spotlight was no longer on here. So she simply went along with it, enjoying the company of her family seemed to be enough. When Cleo was old enough to go to school, she went to school. As a good queen’s charisma draws people to her simply because she speaks, Cleopatra was perfectly capable of making friends with almost anyone. The geeks and the jocks, the band kids and the cheerleaders, everyone loved her. As a queen is responsible for the care of her people, Cleopatra was always a studious student. Her homework was always in on time and to the best of her abilities. Life at home was nowhere near as simple, for she could never seem to figure out why her younger sister didn’t love her like the rest of the world seemed to love her. In fact, she couldn’t figure out why Bee would always be giving her attitude. She still can’t figure it out, so instead of focusing too much of her attention on it, she throws herself into her social life and her classwork, the easy alternative to focusing on a failing relationship. She had a great life at school, she may not have been part of the cheerleading squad or student body but she was popular all the same. Cleo found her interests in marching band, or rather, doing the color guard in the marching band. When she joined marching band in high school, she met Ryan, the drum major of the high school band. He may have been two years older than him but she fell for him and she fell hard. And it seemed that he did to. Soon, they were dating and easily one of the cutest couples at school. She didn’t pick the title for them, in fact she loathed it. She loathed hearing it. Instead she focused her attention on her new boyfriend and left it all at that. So they dated until the summer of her senior year, when Ryan was killed in a car accident that she also happened to have been in. They had been heading home after having a week together and it all happened so fast. Of course, it hadn’t been that easy. Cleo had walked away with very few scars or bruises. Ryan didn’t walk away with his life. Cleo was crushed, after all how do you lose someone who meant the world to you when everything was finally setting in place. First, Ryan had given Cleo a promise ring earlier that night. And after that, they went to a hotel room and did it for the first time in the two years they’d been together. A couple of weeks after Ryan’s death, she found out that Ryan hadn’t left her on her own. Cleo found out that she was, in fact, pregnant with Ryan’s child. Now She lives in terror with the idea that someone might find out and that the entire world would hate and condemn her for having a child at such a young age. Okay so you’ve heard Cleo’s back story and know maybe let’s see who cleo is. Cleo has always been known at the perfect child, the one who lives and breathes perfection. She does her schoolwork, her chores, and any other work without complaint, but don’t be fooled. Cleo isn’t perfect. She just knows how to put on the perfect face so the rest of the world can’t see all the insecurities and fear hidden beneath. The simple idea of her being perfect was her safeguard from everyone seeing how insecure she can be. I’ll go into cleo’s insecurities a little later on. But for now let’s stay on track. Cleo is naturally charismatic. It’s not something she does on purpose, it’s just something that she was born with. She can talk to almost anyone and make friends. She can lead anyone to believe what she believes, simply because she’s a good public speaker. Had she any inclination to be in leadership, she could probably give Teagan a pretty good run for her money. However, she is content being color guard captain in marching band. When cleo loves something, she has a tendency to do well in it and put her entire being into what she’s doing. She loves school and guard, so she excels in it. But she is a naturally good/hard worker and time manager. She can do anything she sets her mind to, because she simply doesn't know any other way to do it. Cleo is fairly insecure about a lot of things. She’s insecure about her relationship with her sister. She’s insecure about her relationship with her parents. She’s insecure about being pregnant. And she’s insecure about what the rest of the word thinks of her. Some nights all she wants to do is curl up in a ball and cry her heart out until there’s nothing left to cry. Her biggest problem is her determination to do everything on her own. She doesn’t want to let anyone in and show them that she’s not as glorious and perfect as she may seem. She’d rather cry alone in a corner and pretend like nothing is wrong. BEHIND THE MASK LEXI | 16 YEARS| PACIFIC DAYLIGHT TIME | THROUGH CHAR | BRITTANY ELIZABETH ALDRIDGE |
