E - Perhaps her favorite letter to write, as if she had it her way her name would contain but two of this letter - the only letters after the letter B. But, this isn't Subway, and therefore she has two more years until she has it her way. In the mean time, she has three of this letter, which makes it the fundamental part of her name. It could stand for a lot of things, really, but the word she relates the most to is Egypt. Not just because of her namesake. No. It's much more than that. The reality was, her parents were straight from Egypt. They were Egyptian emigrants, coming to the USA for the promise of a better way of life. The American dream. They had relatives and friends already in the states, and they wanted the chance to join them. Her mother was an aspiring actress at the time, like many young women, and their father was madly in love with her just enough to make the move. And so, they did. After the dream sizzled out, the two somehow ended up in Brunswick where both Bee and her sister joined the world. But, Egypt is still at the base of their home. Though her namesake is rather irrelevant to Bee, she still loves to consider her ancestry. She has a passport for the sole reason of going to Egypt every five or so years, the one time when she actual enjoys being around her family. It's something that makes her unique. Something to make her stand out. And, for that very reason, she latches on to it.
E - The final letter. No matter which way you slice it, it's a repeat of at least one other. But, that may make it the most important, in a way. It defines her. It could stand for a number of things, just like any letter. But, the most important of things this time around is probably Earl. Earl is her seven year old Poodle mix. He was a gift on Christmas when she was nine years old. Originally, it was meant that Earl would be the family dog to be shared between Bee and Cleo, but Bee had quickly made up her mind otherwise. Earl had become her best friend in a matter of hours. He slept in her room, followed her nearly everywhere, and more than once she even tried to take him to school with her. He became her dog, not the family dog. But, her parents seemed to be okay with it, because they understood that things and plans changed. Even Earl's name had changed. Bee originally had named him Pearl, after one of her birthstones in the month of June. But, after realizing that her Pearl was actually a he, his name was shifted to Earl. Earl the dog was the one thing that could make her feel better than just second best. She was his number one. And, for that, Bee loved him all the more.
Just three simple letters. That's all she cares to be known as. Three simple letters that happen to form an actual word.

• "A flying insect, of the superfamily Apoidea, known for their organized societies, for collecting pollen, and producing wax and honey." It's almost ironic at just how well the definitions of her chosen name fit her. The first being a description of an insect that everyone seems to know. They're a necessary annoyance, though for Bee herself that annoyance goes to more of an extreme. She's allergic. Highly allergic. It's a little known fact about her, but it's also probably one of the most important facts. She carries an EpiPen with her everywhere she goes, just in case she happens to get stung. A sting for her is more than just an annoyance for her. She swells up; she can't breathe. She's known she was allergic since she was four. She had been playing in the yard with Cleo when she had gotten stung. And, after a trip to the emergency room, she's carried that pen ever since then. It's better safe then sorry, but she still prefers to not talk about it. It's just the irony of her name, really.
• "A contest, especially for spelling." This is the second definition of her name, though it fits just as well as the first. Contests are something Bee feels she's quite comfortable with. There are days when she feels as if her entire life is just one big competition. She has to admit, she's always been slightly competitive. It must stem from the fact that she always feels the need to be. Living in Cleo's shadow, as she feels she always has, just creates that undying need to be number one at something. Anything, really, as long as it means she's not second best to her sister. So, she's competitive. Almost to the point that it could be considered unhealthy. It's only accented by the fact that she's stubborn, blunt and slightly negative about life -though, Bee would argue that she's not negative, she's just a realist. She likes to find the obvious -and maybe even the hidden- truths or imperfections behind things and point them out; it's just what she does. It happens naturally, almost as a way to make herself feel better about her own insecurities. Though, ultimately, she's the main victim of her 'realist' approach to life. In a way, it's probably what's lead to her depression. Her depression is something that she keeps a secret. Undiagnosed, but slowly eating away at her. She lives constantly feeling inferior. Occasionally, she'll do something to combat that, such as sabotaging her sister, making herself look better if only for a few brief moments. It's a basic method just to help herself feel a little less inferior, a little better about herself. No one would understand this, so her tactics are ultimately a secret, but it's something she thrives on. It's almost just another game in her unspoken lifelong competition with Cleo. This aspect is kept up and locked away, however, just like so many other aspects of her life.
• "A ring or torque; a bracelet." The third definition of her name, though now obsolete, falls just as ironically as the proceeding two. A bracelet. Like any young girl, Bee has tons of them. There's one bracelet in particular, however, that never leaves her wrist. She always wears it upon her left wrist. It was a gift to her from her grandmother, sometime from when she was a child. It's nothing special; it's just a metallic band with no real distinguishing gems or markings. It's a genuine Egyptian bracelet that just serves as a subtle reminder of her heritage. And, for that, she loves it.
