REINHART 27 | HETEROSEXUAL | JAZZ SINGER/PIANIST | VISITOR | CAREY MULLIGAN THE PLAYLIST BREATHE ME - SIA "Well, I'm not even going to lie to you, Sia is probably my favorite artist at the current moment so she'll probably all over this playlist of mine. Why? Good question, but easy to answer. I'm just so allured by her voice. It's so enchanting... so captivating. Honestly I can't listen to any of her music without getting the chills. She has a way with using her voice to get across this sort of emotion that really just compliments her songs in the best sort of way. She's quite the lovely artist. I highly recommend you check her out if you haven't before. Anyhow, I rather enjoy this particular song because it's so... vulnerable. It's just a beautiful piece that goes into depth on how it is to be a damaged person looking for solace in another person. Like myself, I'm sure that anyone could really relate to the words because we've all been to places that have made us question our own stability and simply wish to have someone else be there to hold us while we fall apart." EYES ON FIRE - BLUE FOUNDATION "To be fairly honest, the only reason I really enjoy this song is because of the simplicity of it but also the sort of... tenseness the music creates towards the end of the song. Also, yet again, I'm drawn to the voice. It's different and rather enjoyable I think. I know, I know... this is a boring response but this is just one of those songs that I like for no real reason at all. Surely you must have a few of those on your iPod as well, do you not?" NEVER THINK - ROBERT PATTINSON "Now now, before you all start judging me for this guilty pleasure, let me explain it, okay? Sheesh. Quick to jump down throats aren't you? I adore this song because I love how organic it is. There's only his voice and the guitar and I think it's a lovely combination. I myself like to keep things as organic as possible too. It's why I love to play the piano, violin, and cello. They just create... such beautifully simple yet so complex sounds and music. Also the song itself is just so beautifully tragic and it just... draws me in. Because I personally know what it's like to be stuck in the position of loving someone but forcing yourself away because you feel like the other person will be better off without you. Trust me, it's never an easy choice to make but I feel like if you love someone then you'll do whatever it takes to ensure their own happiness." I CAN'T MAKE YOU LOVE ME - ADELE "Oh dear. Another one of my favorites. Don't even let me get started with Adele. She's such a darling. I love her to pieces. An inspiration of mine to be honest. Her voice is just so smooth and can reach such great heights. Once you start listening to her it's just so hard to stop! Kind of like eating ice cream. She's just so addicting like that. But I love this song because... well, it really just breaks my heart. I love songs that can make me feel so deeply that I end up not knowing what to do with myself. Not even going to lie. Every time I listen to this song it makes me cry. Every single time. I've even gone so far as to learn to play it on the piano. Seriously I can't even with Adele. Such a beautiful soul." THE SCIENTIST - COLDPLAY "Yet another tragic song about love. Really beautiful and soft. I really enjoy the piano in this one even though it isn't nearly as complex as the pieces that I'm used to playing. Think it just comes down to being able to achieve that sort of raw emotion in the song and combines beautifully with both the guitar and drums. There is also just something about the words... also get my ever time. Just another one of those songs to listen when you're feel a little down and just want to relish in your heartbreak I suppose. I have a guilty pleasure for those. THE Q & As WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INSTRUMENT? "Easy. The piano. I have been drawn to those ivory keys ever since I was a little girl. My parents had a beautiful piano in their dinning room that I would always examine curiously as a little girl. They themselves never played it. Just a sort of show piece for fairly wealthy people I suppose. Seemed like such a shame for something so beautiful to sit there being unused so I started using it. Of course I didn't know what I was doing at the age of three, but my parents eventually hired a tutor who helped me discover my passion for music. Shortly after the piano I picked up the violin and cello. Two other beautiful instruments that I rather enjoy. It wasn't until I was a bit older that I learned I could also sing, and though that's what I'm commonly known for, I still think I'm more drawn to those three instruments over my own vocal chords." HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO BECOME SO SUCCESSFUL SO YOUNG? "Mm... lots of passion, dedication, and hard work. Once my parents and I discovered my musical abilities they promptly signed me up for all kinds of talent shows and eventually people just started to notice and I would be playing the piano or singing in restaurants or lounges. Started off small but somewhere down the line someone from a label noticed me and offered to sign me. Really it was quite the surprise because music had been a side job for me. I had been studying in college to become a physical therapist, thanks to the added pressures of my parents who wanted me to have a backup plan if the music career didn't work out. I was only two years in when I was signed so I dropped out. The medical field was interesting and all, but my heart wasn't into it as much as it was in to music. I know it was a risk, but one that worked out well I think." WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME? "I'm guessing this means aside from practicing my instruments and writing new music? Well... let's see... I guess I just like to read a lot. Any kind of fiction is my favorite and I like to read in front of a fireplace. Just any sort of relaxing environment is where I like to be after going to a show because though I'm used to the sort of attention that comes with being a decently known singer, that doesn't mean I enjoy it all the time. I think when I'm not touring or working I just sort of sit around, drink tea, visit family. Pretty boring I assure you but I don't really like to splurge on extravagant vacations or anything of that nature. Just doesn't appeal to me in the way that it might to someone else. Suppose that makes me something of a humble person which is good. My goal had been to not lose my head through this whole process and I think I succeeded in holding true to myself." WHY SO MANY TRAGIC LOVE SONGS? "Oh dear. I knew something like this would come up. Was hoping we wouldn't go there but I suppose I'll answer as best I can. I was young the first time I fell in love. He was a... peculiar character. So different from anyone I had ever met before but I really did adore him. Loved him even. Things just didn't work out though and I suffered from a heartbreak that was quite hard to heal. Music helped me with that and so I fell in love with all these songs so I felt less alone during that time. Yes, I know I married and no, he wasn't my first love. My heart had healed enough to... to love another but the scars from my first young romance are still there, resting side by side with the most recent of wounds." WHAT DID HAPPEN TO YOUR HUSBAND? "Straying off the topic of music I see... a little insensitive and uncalled for if I might say. These aren't matters we're supposed to be discussing but I will tell you what I've told everyone else. I don't really know what happened and I don't care to discuss it. Maybe it had been a year since I lost him but I'm still hardly ready to get into the details of it all. How would you feel if someone was constantly poking and prodding you with questions on why and how just after one of your loved ones passed away? It's terribly rude and you ought to take a lesson in manners. But that's as much as I'll say on the matter." WORKING ON ANY NEW MUSICAL PROJECTS? "Yes. I am currently on a very leisurely sort of tour. Basically just going around to small towns to play in small jazz houses or some kind of smaller venue because I like the sort of intimacy you have with the crowd when it's just a small one. Also it's to clear my head from everything going on and a way to humble myself from all the bright city lights I have grown accustomed to after the past couple of years. Most of the dates and places are being kept on the down low so that only those in the selected towns are able to attend the shows. Now, if that is all, I have a show to get ready for. Thank you for your time and listen to me ramble on." BEHIND THE MASK LEAH | 16 | EASTERN | IDFK | A HOARD OF THEM |
