KOWALSKI 21 | STRAIGHT| BARTENDER | LOCALS | YURI PLESKUN PERSONALITY STUBBORN | WILD | UNPREDICTABLE | RECKLESS | PASSIONATE Andrei Amadeusz Kowalski is probably the most unpredictable person you have ever met. He can say how much he hates riding a bike, but see him buying one tomorrow only because he felt like doing it. Which only shows that he is pretty reckless. He is not the party animal kind of person. Well, alright, I lied. He is. But not the type of parties in expensive clubs and stuff like that. He is a fan of house parties, probably this is why there is a party at his place every weekend if he or his flatmate are not at work. He looks like a total goofball at times, even though he is not. He can be a true hard worker, but he have not found this trait of his character yet. He is open-minded to new ideas and things, but when he does not like something in you or something that you do, he just comes up and tells you. He is stubborn and usually gets what he wants. He does not like sluts. Of course, he likes having his one night stands, but that is all. His real opinion about them is not really positive and he never lets a girl to really touch his heart or mind. This does not mean that he does not know how to be romantic. Oh, trust me, he does. Wrapping his fingers around girls’ hearts, and then squeezing them until they bleed. He is a master in doing that. He is not aware of it, though. If he was, he was going to stop doing it, because deep inside he is not a bad person. He just makes mistakes. Like everyone else. His are just bigger than others’. Andi dreams of opening his own rock club one day where he can invite all of his friends that have bands to play there or he can play there himself. Yes, he can play on a guitar and drums. But before that he wants to earn enough money to buy a motorbike, which is going to happen soon. He smokes whatever he has and drinks whatever he finds. He loves chicken wings, and – wait for it! – playing chess. Yup, this adrenaline junkie that does not even have a driver license, always gets into reckless fights and sleeps with different girls almost every week just feel wanted.. this guy finds his peace of mind in playing chess. Weird. HISTORY ADOPTED THREE TIMES | RAN AWAY | LIVED ON THE STEET FOR YEARS Probably the worst thing you can do to a child is to make him or her unwanted. Even if you sit there and start thinking about it, you cannot make a full list of the consequences of your behavior. It has such a big impact on the kid; it leaves such a huge scar in their life. You cannot simply make a list of these. You cannot really understand it. Unfortunately, over 400,000,000 abandoned children live on their own on the streets of hundreds of cities around the world. 1,000,000,000 of the world's families live on less than a dollar a day. As to Andrei Kowalski, he was born in Krakow, a relatively big town in Poland. It was not easy for his parents, Amadeusz and Natasha, to make the two ends meet even before the birth of their one and only son. It did not become easier after that either. So they could not see another exit, but to leave their three years old son in an orphanage. Andrei spent the first years of his childhood there. I do not know whether you are informed about the conditions in which the abandoned children in Poland live, but I can tell you that it is really different from those who live in America. Different in a bad way. Andrei and the other kids there in the orphanage were constantly misunderstood, uneducated, starving and beaten by both the personnel and the older kids. It is sad to know that every 2 seconds a child becomes an orphan. Lucky or not, Andrei was adopted when he became nine years old. Happy to leave the awful orphanage behind as if it was only a nightmare that lasted for five years, but finally ended, he was really hopeful about his new family. Pierre and Anais Sorlin took the little boy to Paris, France, where they had a big white house with many, many, many rooms and many children there. Unfortunately, Andrei could not get along with anybody there, so after four awful years there, the Sorlin family returned Andrei in the same nightmare in Krakow they had took him away when he was nine. When he was thirteen, Andrei was adopted again. This time by an old childless couple that took him away from Poland and moved in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK with him. Unfortunately, the Hamiltons returned Andrei back to Krakow, labeling him as “a problem child”. This is when Andrei lost any hope that there would be a family that would like to adopt him. You know, when people come to look at the children and choose one, they always ask the personnel for help. Well, when the personnel label you as “a problem child”, nobody wants to adopt you, nobody wants to take you away from here. Plus, you are already fourteen, and people are usually looking for children under six. No hope for you. But miracles do not happen only on Christmas. Andrei was adopted for the third time and taken to Iowa, Wisconsin, USA. But, of course, something always has to go wrong. Believe me, this family was not the best family to be adopted by. Jennifer Mallon was thirty-eight year old nurse working day and night to earn money for herself and her husband – the forty-two year old Jackson Mallon. He owned an auto service, and that was not bad at all. The bad thing was that with the time he became an alcoholic for reasons which Andrei could not understand (and probably never will). Everything turns around when Jennifer came back home from twenty-seven hours of work, there was a big scandal between her and Jack, where the man hit the woman. And this was where Andrei appeared into the whole picture. If there was something that he hated most, it was men hitting women – he had seen enough of that into the orphanage in Poland. He is not himself anymore. Just look at him! This was not Andrei. Just.. not. It cannot be. I cannot remember him looking like that ever before – so angry, so out of control, out of sight, out of his skin, out of his own self. No, Adnrei, stop! This is not you! You are going to regret it! Oh, Lord! I created him. I did it! Why is he behaving like that? Stop! The only thing he remembers now is that the last things he saw before he left the house was Jackson Mallon’s body on the floor and Jennifer Mallon screaming and swearing after him. He escaped. Just like that. He did not have other choice except to start wandering the streets of Iowa, Wisconsin. If he got back at Mallon’s, they were going to send him back to the jail or, even worse!, back to Poland. And he was only sixteen. He did not want to spend even a day more in that awful place in Krakow. He could not take the risk to go back to Mallon’s either. The street was what he had now. And it was not that bad, though. Soon he found many like him – minor criminals, junkies, dealers, thieves, etc from all over the world. He found a place to stay – it was just an apartment in the poorest part of the down. Three awesome years of part-time jobs, crazy people, marijuana, cocaine, skating boards, motorcycles, girls, parties were waiting for him. And friends. Many, many friends that made him feel truly wanted probably for the first time of his life. Do you see those rockers, those hippies, those junkies on the street? They were his family now, calling him simply Andi and truly understanding him and helping him… But nothing lasts forever, just how Axel Rose sings in one really amazing song. Things started getting darker and more dangerous with the time passing. Andrei had only two really, really close friends then – Tom and Jason. But this only lasted until that moment when… Street children are routinely detained illegally, beaten and tortured and sometimes killed by police in some countries. Did you know that? … until that moment when Tom got killed, when the cops came to chase away one of their illegal races with motorcycles. The fucking bull just killed him with a blink of an eye. He did not deserve it. Trust me. Tom was not the one that had to pay the price. But.. sorry, but what price? They were just having fun at one moment, and the next… everything turned black. He was only eighteen years old. Andrei and Jason, too. It was just… not fair. Well, and if you started thinking that this was enough… well, it was not. Because only a year after the accident, Andrei’s girlfriend died overdosing. Another two years of his life left him just like that. She just passed away into his hands. And that was when Jason decided that this whole mess should stop. He took Andrei with himself and the two of them left Wisconsin. First, their travelled all over the USA in order to find some strength and put the things into their heads in order, and then they went to Maine. This happened just an year ago. The two friends found a small apartment and started working. Andrei got a job as a bartender in a small underground rock club earning enough money for himself and the half of the rent. This does not mean that they lead a life of an old married couple. Oh, no, trust me! I was there at their place the last Saturday night and I saw everything. The whores, the junkies, the drugs, the alcohol, the loud music… And, of course, the cops that came in order to tell them that the neighbors wanted them to stop the music. But nobody can tell Andrei what to do. Trust me. Even I cannot do that. Nobody can. BEHIND THE MASK NEG | 19 | GMT | LAM | NONE YET Siana was looking straight into Samson’s eyes still wondering how this man could do something so amazing to her – she had an emotionally burning personality, but she was feeling way calmer being around him. If she had the same conversation with someone else, for example, Charlie, she would have probably be throwing things, and screaming, and crying, and wanting to run away, and probably really running away. It would have been an ugly picture, looking like a real fight between two people. This argument she had with Samson was on a way different level, though. He gave her chance to speak, to say out loud her opinion on the current situation; he listened to her, and then he tried to understand her – and, oh, he did. All these were things that Charlie had never been doing to Siana, or to anybody else in his life. And this made her realize that she did not have the right to compare Samson to Charlie. Just like Samson did not compare her to Delilah. Bearing in mind that this was the first controversy between Siana and Sam, it was something new to her. She knew well that her excuse was not going to wash away everything that had been said, but at the same time she was not feeling sorry for saying the words she said. They presented her thoughts – or her fears, to be clearer – and she did not want to hide anything from Samson. It still hurt like hell that he had hidden that from her, though. Why did not he tell her? She wanted to be his stronghold in his hardest times. She wanted Samson to look up to her and share with her, when he needed help or simply had the need to talk to someone. About anything. Siana wanted him to know that she was strong enough to take care for him. She was just not strong enough to fight herself, when she was wrapped up in her own fears. Siana did not want to lose Samson. That was probably her biggest fear, and although she knew that the biggest enemy of people was not hate, but it was fear, she just could not fight it. Because fear made people do things they would not do otherwise. She loved him more than she had planned to, and even if their relationship had its quirks, they were too small, and she did not regret it. She was sure that she would never leave his side, and she knew as well that he would not do it too, but that this fear was blurring her mind, her consciousness and she was doing things and saying words that she did not want to do or say. Samson was begging her for her patience, and if that was what he wanted and needed, she would give it to him. Siana nodded lightly at first, but then more confident. If that was the only way she could help him, she would give her best. She felt a sudden urge to grab the back of cigarettes and throw it away in front of his eyes, but she knew that was not right. If being patient and standing by his side was the right way she could help Samson, she would do it. These thoughts were passing through her mind, and she was repeating them again and again preventing herself from saying something else that would hurt him - both of them – even more than her previous words. She did not want to hurt him. Siana breathed in silently, and then sighed quietly convincing herself that she could be helpful in anyway Samson wanted her to be. She had to be strong… Siana slipped her hand into Samson’s hand looking straight into his eyes. The night now could continue to its plan. They were together now; they have never been apart anyway. There was a difference, though – they were together now, and they could be strong together. They were. |
