CROSS 26 | HETEROSEXUAL | FIRE FIGHTER | EMERGENCY CREW | RYAN REYNOLDS PERSONALITY GOOFY | RELIABLE | PROTECTIVE | RESPONSIBLE | LAID BACK GOOFY - Dean here is still very much a child at heart. He's the kind of guy who will do random things that will sometimes bring you to question his age. He doesn't really tend to think about the things he's doing while he's doing them unless he's in work/big brother mode. When he's hanging out with friends, Dean turns into something of an idiot because he just likes to be dumb and have a good time. Basically he's your typical jock. He plays sports, is very active, and has an incredibly dumb sense of humor. He is the kind of guy you can always go to when you're looking for a laugh because he has no problem with making an idiot of himself just to make someone else smile. Sometimes he also lacks a filter which means he forgets to process his stupid thoughts and they just leave his mouth making him come off as an idiot, which he actually isn't. RELIABLE - You know how you have that one person you feel like you can always go to for anything at all because they always come through? Well, Dean would be that guy. He's more than capable of keeping his promises and he always does. You can trust him to help you through a hard time or to keep your secrets because along with being reliable he's pretty trustworthy. Dean is a constant. He never changes no matter what you throw at him. You can depend on him to stay the same no matter what you tell him or that his feelings about you won't change. He isn't quick to make judgments because he knows that people all have their problems that they have to deal with and he tries to take that into consideration. The only time you can't depend on him is when what you're asking of him seems to be too much, is completely out of his hands, or poses to be a threat to someone else he cares about. PROTECTIVE - Being a big brother, you kind of learn to just naturally be protective over people. Sometimes his protectiveness can be a bit extreme and slightly possessive. He'll step into the line of fire without you having to even ask him because that's just what he does. And his protectiveness isn't even really limited to his family or the friends he's close with. Dean has a general protectiveness for all people who are in trouble. It's kind of why he fits in with his job the way he does. He's always wanting to make sure that people are safe and protected and what better way to do that then to safe their lives in danger? Dean is the kind of guy that's going to assure you that everything is going to be okay because he's going to take care of it. Which, in most cases, he usually does. Dean is a rather intimidating person when he wants to be. RESPONSIBLE - As stated before, though he is a bit of a knuckle head, he is more than capable of being a responsible adult. He has a job, makes sure he has enough money to pay the bills, cooks, and even maintains a clean house. Why? Because he is currently looking after his little sister since their mother died. He didn't want to have his sister shipped off to live with some distant relative that she'd only ever met a few times when she was little so he took it upon himself to become her legal guardian and now had to play the role of a parent as well as a big brother. He and his sister fuss like all siblings do, but he makes sure she'd fed, has clothes, and does her homework because that's his job. So Dean can be looked to when you need some serious help because he can come down from his stupidity to look at a situation like a mature, responsible adult. This trait also comes into play when he's on the job because Dean knows he can't be messing around when someone's life is resting in his hands. While working, he's always calm, cool, and collected but also thinks on his feat, trying to figure out how to get rescue missions finished as smoothly as possible. He's also considerate about the feelings of the victims and does everything in his power to calm and soothe them. LAID BACK - Admittedly, Dean still is a guy so he liked to go out to the bar and have a good time with his bros, but that's just it. He doesn't really like to go to parties anymore or anything like that. He has a very chilled out kind of personality now because of his new responsibility with his sister. Instead of getting blackout drunk, he'll get tipsy and instead of shacking up with some random stranger, he'd rather take a girl out on a date and give her his phone number. He doesn't like the whole 'having sex with strangers' getup because it doesn't appeal to him. He's actually rather sweet and sentimental, but he does have a tendency to be a serial dater. For reasons he can not even fathom, Dean can't really seem to find a girl to keep him sticking around, but he does make sure he's sweet about letting her down. He's not really that much of an asshole. PERSISTENT - Yeah, this guy doesn't really know when to call it quits with anything. Because of his determination, Dean has a habit to keep going at something even when it's pretty clear that he should just stop. Like if you're a friend of his that he's fallen out of touch with or just doesn't want to be his friend anymore, odds are he'll just keep trying and trying to make it up to you. Because he's annoying like that and has this weird issue where he hates losing people so he tries to keep everyone he knows and loves as close as possible to the point where it can be annoying. But you know how some people have a fear of commitment? Well, consider his fear to be the reverse. He's afraid of losing people so he'll do everything in his power to make sure he doesn't. HISTORY FALLING IN LOVE | MOVE TO CHICAGO | DEATH OF HIS MOTHER FALLING IN LOVE - Well, let's start off with the backstory. Dean was born to a single mother some twenty-six years ago and he'd always been your typical boy. He'd gotten into fights in middle school. Stupid ones that were started over nothing, but he was pretty bright for someone his age. He wasn't stupid even though he acted like it. Kids always assumed he was an idiot because he tended to lack common sense but the teachers knew all about his potential through his test scores. While in high school, he was actually enrolled in all honors classes and eventually moved up to AP because he was bright, talented, and determined to complete any challenge that was laid out before him. It was also during high school that a whole different challenge presented itself to him. A girl. Samantha Petrov. She was an interesting little thing that immediately caught his attention and left hi speechless. Twenty-six year old Dean probably couldn't tell you whether or not he knew it was love and he still wasn't too sure on the matter, but all he knew was that he really liked the girl and she did weird things to his mind. So they started dating and were a relatively put-together couple. For six months they'd dated and moved into things pretty fast. Now, in the present, Dean regretted having moved so fast into having sex with her, but he had been a teenage boy and therefore he couldn't help himself and ended up getting her pregnant. This should have scared him back then, but it didn't. Dean was smart, had a job, and was more than prepared to support his girlfriend and their baby on the way. He was excited for it even because Dean had always been a family man and showed signs of it at a young age. He adored his little sister and had helped his mother take care of her ever since she was a baby. So he'd been pretty okay with Sammi being pregnant and planned on staying with her every step of the way... only they never made it that far. Sammi came to him, telling him all of what happened and the secret behind why he was never allowed over her house. Her father was an abusive asshole and literally beat her until the baby was terminated. White rage clouded his vision and he stormed over to the house, barging in and throwing his fists in every direction he could. Dean was pretty sure he got a good few hits in thanks to his dabbling in boxing and his strong build for football, but he ultimately ended up in the hospital and woke up to find a note that Samantha had left with her sister and that he shouldn't come looking for her. Which he didn't. He stayed in his hometown to finish high school and that was it. He graduated and then left. MOVE TO CHICAGO - After all of what happened to him in high school, Dean really needed to get away to clear his head. His mother cried, naturally. She was afraid of what he might do or how he might end up, but Dean had a good head on his shoulders even though he was still dealing with some grief. He'd promised her that he'd come back and visit. His sister had been around nine at that time, so she'd done some crying to. But he couldn't stay. He had to go and try to forget everything that had happened because he didn't like the person he had become since Samantha left. All he'd done was stay in his room and drift through life, and that wasn't how he wanted to live. Dean wanted to be a happy, well-rounded guy, so he had to move past this. So he did some traveling with the money he had saved up. He never left the country, but he did go places and see things that helped distract him. Dean ultimately ended up moving to Chicago and stayed there because he liked the overall feel of the place. He even applied to college and majored in architecture and minored in business. All the while he picked up a job at the fire department and ended up falling in love with the job. He loved being able to help/save people and the thrill of it was enough to keep him going back for more. His original plan was to become and architect since buildings and their inner structures and all that interested him, but he figured he could put that off and spend a few of his younger years working as a firefighter since it turned out being something he loved. So he stayed there, working odd hours while studying for college. Eventually he graduated and officially became an adult. Things were looking up for him and he could feel the pieces of himself falling back into place. Dean even started to date again. He had a static girlfriend for a few years, but she ended up having to leave because of family issues and they fell apart. But like went on and he was fine. Until he got a call telling him that his mother was sick with cancer. DEATH OF HIS MOTHER - Dean moved back home to spend all his time with his mother and little sister in the time that she had left. That ultimately ended up being a few painful months that went by way too fast but ended up maturing Dean in ways even he couldn't understand. Along with being a brother, he took up a parental role for his sister. He took care of her and assured her that everything would be alright. She wouldn't be sent off to live with some distant relative because he was going to take care of her, which he kept true to his word. Dean knew that taking a moody, teenage girl under his wing was probably a bad idea, but he couldn't just throw his sister to the wolves. He loved her and was sure that he could provide for her and so he did. The two of them moved to Brunswick about a year ago because it was a place they'd gone to over the summer and it seemed like a nice enough town to try and finish raising his little sister. So he bought a house there, picked up a job at the fire house, and has been living there ever since. Trying to keep his life together even though it's been getting pretty rough lately.
