CALLOWAY TWENTY FIVE | HETEROSEXUAL | K9 TRAINING OFFICER | EMERGENCY | AARON TVEIT the note dear my darling son, I’ve kept my mouth shut for many years about your wild antics. the parties that you threw when your father and i were away, or the girls that we found hidden in your closet. any of those girls would be better than this one. i implore you to see reason in your choices for once. you have known her for only three years, your father and i knew each other for six. you are not even living together. i kept my mouth shut for the longest time but i can’t anymore. she is not right for you, she is not right for this family. you are about to take over the family company and this is not the kind of girl that you want at your side. when you told me that you ran into andrea, i was thrilled to hear. meeting the girl of your dreams at your bachelor party in another country, it’s fate my son and you should not ignore it. this girl is not the girl of your dreams, andrea is, she is the right girl for you. please don’t walk down the aisle today, it would not the best thing for you, me or the company. you need a girl that can stand beside you, not behind you while you outshine her. that relationship will only lead to resentment for one another. be smart my son, and know that your father is looking down on you, waiting for you to make the right choice. your mother. stunned. that was the only thing that kingston could think of when he was reading the letter. it was far from the expected congratulations card that he was expecting. the sound of foosteps being heard brought the male to shove it into his pocket and turn around to see the blushing bride, ”car..it’s bad luck, though you are not in your dress so the stipulations might me a bit different....” as the company had went sour due to bad investments showing up after his father’s passing, selling homes that kingston grew up in and losing the memories with them. ”i need…that thing…from your mother..”, his brows furrowing and he shook his head, ”that was very vague. my mother has a lot of shit..”, looking around the room that he was in, his mother’s bedroom where he was meant to get ready for the wedding ceremony that was only hours away. slipping his jacket off his body, he was dressed rather down for the beginning process of a wedding. ”yes, but it’s specific, a bracelet actually..” she spoke before kingston pointed to the bathroom, ”before the wedding planner finds us together, i’m going to hide in the bathroom…and start to get ready..”[, but not before he stole a kiss from his literally blushing bride. the beauty she held, even with her hairs in curlers and in sweats that read “bride” in bejeweled letters did not shine as brightly as she did. ”you do that. she said something about it being in your jacket..” and he shrugged, ”well there is only one in here..”, grinning before retreating into the bathroom, knocking his shoes off his feet in the middle of the walk and soon his shirt, pants and briefs followed after shutting the door. he had meant the tux coat that was sitting on a hanger on the closet door but her nimble fingers dove into the jacket that he had been wearing and came across the letter, unknown to kingston as he showered, preparing himself for the day that started a new chapter for himself and his, in only a few short hours, bride. the lack of a ceremony the way that a groom should be looking at his bride was not even close to how kingston was staring at the brunette as she strolled down the aisle to him. she seemed eager to get to him and he was anticipating her arrival but her steps stopped and he even took a few steps closer to her, concered. his eyes shot to his family though, breaking contact with the girl and he saw out of the corner of her eyes that she was stepping backward, ”…what..” he implored reason to understanding why she was retreating, slowly, and painfully. each step was a stab to him and he had to get to her before she got to the doors, ”caroline!” he called out, jogging up the aisle. he could feel the different emotions in the room but he knew that his mother was smiling at that instant as his back was turned to her and he ran up the white fabricated asile to grab a hold of caroline’s wrist, ”you were almost there…we were almost there..” he whispered to her, and she shook her head at him, ”you cheated..’ she whispered, not speaking about the physical form of being with another as kingston would never do that to her, but he did not understand, ”never..” he whispered, forgetting about the people that were watching, the audience’s attention grabbed as he turned her head to her and leaned in to press her lips to hers, reminding her of the love he had in his heart for this girl. he was only twenty two but it was right, this was right. her head turning away was all he needed to. ”marry me caroline..” he whispered to her but she shook her head, taking that final step out the venue doors, ”I can’t..” but he never understood why, he never knew that the letter was the cause of this, he just believed that he did something wrong. swallowing down the sobs, he turned to the guests that were staring at him and gave a shrug, ”..weddings off.”, and then it was his turn to walk out the door and attempt one last time to get his bride down the aisle. a taxi, already outside, had a woman, dressed in white, shoving the fabric into the back of the car and that was it. her letter you are probably standing at the end of the aisle waiting for me and i am not going to be there. there is no denying that we have a love that is unfathomable but your mother was right in addressing the biggest problem in the relationship. we tried to hide it king, but it’s not going to go away and i can’t bear to be in a marriage, a union, that is meant to be something forever when i never know if you are going to walk out on me. you are always influenced by other people that it could happen, and i can’t wait for that day. you know i love you but i’m sorry king, i just can’t marry you.. days later rip it to shreds, make the words vanish forever and erase them from his mind or keep it, let it be a reminder about what riches will bring you. kingston did a little of both. he ripped it except for a small, importance sentence that he has put on the fridge of all three homes that he has taken residence in since the wedding was called off. he returned to the apartment that he shared with her two days later, having taken time for himself, to find that all traces of her were gone. she even got the magnets on the fridge that she had paid for, the bunny, the coconut, even the martini glass that they had gotten in vegas. all her posessions, she even took her favorite shirt htat she wore to bed that was actually his. left with nothing, the male packed up his own life and moved out of the small vermont town. finding bear upon moving to maine, the male was fortunate enough to buy a one story house that had a bedroom just for himself. fate would think it funny, as does kingston, that as he was returning home from a visit to the office, he almost hit a dog on the road. at this current time, his ex-fiance and almost wife, was being hit by a car. while kingston gained a companion, the girl was losing blood and slipping into the afterlife. kingston slammed on the brakes, running a hand through his hair while peering over the steering wheel to get a better view of the large multi-colored dark hued animal that was sitting, just sitting, in the middle of the road. giving a raised eyebrow, he cautiously opened the door and gave a small noise, a blend of a hum and a whistle. the creature’s tail began to wag as it was addressed and kingston scratched at his chin in thought—what was this animal doing? [”if you are going to sit, at least do it on the side of the road..” |
finding a new career path
at a loss of what to do with his life, kingston had counted down the days since he had been jolted. he was highly sure that he was losing his mind and needed a hobby, something to do with his life. upon leashing bear, kingston stepped out of his house with the anxious dog who was still trained but could never ignore the first bit of natural instincts that came with being outside. two weeks since he had come across bear and twenty days since he had been left at the altar. the male was coming back into his own but work, being in an office was not exactly the best place for him. he had moved the headquarters of his late father’s publishing company to maine, a place that he was calling home. upon waiting for his dog to promptly return the ball as they had made their way from the house to the park, he was approached by a man in dark blue with his own dog that resembled bear to a large mark. ”good afternoon sir. looking for a male about your height, your weight, brown hair and blue eyes.”, much to his relief that the description stopped at height and weight, ”swear that dye dries fast..” but the look that he got in response from the officer was unentertained and kingston shrugged, he had tried. ”kidding officer. that fits a lot of descriptions though.”, his own dog now back at his side, ”that looks a lot like our retired police dog..”, offhandly mentioning and kingston looked down, ”police dog? maybe that is why he’s so well behaved, and here I thought I had just gotten lucky..” after all that bad luck in the romance section. the officer chuckled and they ended up getting far off topic, and finally the male mentioned a recruitment place, ”yea it’s right down the road. your dog still looks young, why don’t you sign him up?”, which brought kingston was think it over before shrugging, ”why not both of us?”, and headed off before the place closed to do just that. it was meant to be a hobby but kingston found his calling with his own pet by his side, trained together, loyal to one another and always having the other’s back—it’s a true partnership that is known around the office.
the call and the uncontrollable lie
”king, it’s dave…caroline’s brother? …yea…listen, she is …what? i’m calling you because you love her…even after she jolted you…you should! …okay, kingston, let me fucking tell you the news. stop talking!....then you can say your peace. she’s ….well two weeks ago, she was put into a coma, and is now waking up..she is asking for you..” that was enough for kingston, that was it for him. he was up and out the door, leaving a note for his neighbor to watch his dog and putting a call into the office for someone to take over the shifts, and then the police station was called to call in for his personal days that had yet to accumulate. she was asking for him. that meant something to kingston because he did still love her, too much, more than he should after having her embarrass him and leave on a whim for no really good reason for it. the male was quick in his speed, being an officer and taking advantage of the siren, being written up for it when he returned back three days later. upon arriving in vermont, the male illegally parked his car and rushed in, begging for her room as he had driven all day to get there. cautious steps had him approaching dave, ”don’t know why she is asking for you but she’s in there..”, and kingston shrugged, ”whatever reason, i’m here.” he replied, moving into the room and biting down on his lip at the sight of his ex-girlfriend, damaged and banged up in various spots. her head was bandaged which should have been the first clue to him, king…”, reaching out for his hand and giving him a smile, what took you so long?, his head tilting to the side, ”long..drive..”, hestitant. the office is down the road baby.., and he took his hand back, excuse me for one sec.., rushing out of the room in a scurry and pumpbing into a doctor. grabbing the male by the coat, he pointed to the room, ”what is the last thing that the woman in there knows.. but it was not her doctor and kingston had to let him go. dave approached him, ”she remembers you proposing. but two months of her life is gone, she doesn’t remember the planning of the wedding, or the fact that she left you..” and kingston had to bite his tongue as dave had the audacity to chuckle at him, ”you mean, she doesn’t remember….she thinks we’re engaged?” he asked. ”yea and her boyfriend is pissed about it..”, which brought kingston to whip his head around, ”that fast!? she has moved on that fast!? shit..should write a fast and furious movie about her..” he mumbled but then kingston had this wicked idea spring to him. going to tell her the truth?” replied dave but kingston was already stepping back into the room. he should have told her the truth but as she grasped his hand again when he approached the bed, he brought a hand upon her cheek and smiled down at her, ”everything okay baby?” and he nodded, ”yea, everything is just perfect..”, leaning down to press his lips to hers.
present day
three weeks after that lie was told, he had managed to push everyone away from her. he wanted her to recover and he even took her away from her family and brought her to maine with him, explaining that she could not remember much but never mentioned that she had jolted him—to her, they were married or engaged, together either way and kingston was thankful for that. he loved her, and she loved him, it was everything that he wanted. dave did not approve but after kingston swore that he would tell her, he relented his hold on his sister reluctantly. the girl was disoriented all the time and confused but kingston told her that he was a full time cop now, and the little details about her life that he made up. her parents had been dead for some time now, so that was not an issue but her noisy brother was always going to be a cloud above his head. he had to get dirt on him but for now, kingston, maybe a little insane, had the time of his life with his fiancé, in their new home, new job, and new dog in a new place, starting over just as it should be.
