MORNING THIRTY-THREE | STRAIGHT | CITY ATTORNEY | POLITICAL FIGURES | DANIEL HENNEY PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION MID COAST HOSPITAL |
Justin Morning
Date of Evaluation: 6/14/13
Case No.: 65522
Date of Report: 6/17/13
Admission Date: 6/13/13
PURPOSE FOR EVALUATION:
This is the first inpatient admission of Justin Morning, a thirty-three-year-old city attorney and resident of Brunswick, Maine. While Morning is known as a stable member of his community, he claims that he wishes to keep a regular check-up going in order to ensure the well-being of his wife, his children, and his community. Although such a request is abnormal, the city attorney insisted that the test was absolute necessary. Signs of depression were noticed by those around him. Making sure that he is indeed mentally stable was his main goal.
ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES:
Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2)
Mental Status Examination
Review of Prior Psychological Assessment
Review of Prior Medical Records
Clinical Interview
This patient participated in 3 hours of testing and a 1 hour diagnostic interview. Tests were administered by Tucker Vanderbilt, M.S. and evaluated by Joseph Wareham, M.A..
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Justin Kameron Morning is a thirty-three-year-old, left-handed, married, mixed male who grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. While Kevin Morning was gone to serve his country in war, his wife, Julia, looked after her two children. Justin spent a great deal of time with his younger sister, Tabitha Morning, within the confines of their middle-class life. Soon after her birth, his father was honorably discharged and was around more to watch over his children. Educational reports show that Justin was a stellar student. While the high scores dwindled in middle school, he pulled them up again and showed immense discipline during his years in ROTC and the debate team. Once he graduated from high school, he aimed to continue in his patriotic ways, a clear way of relating to his father, and became a marine himself.
He was a marine for seven years before he was discharged. While he trained and was stationed in Okinawa for a time, a trip to England showed his doctors that he had a rare medical condition that made him impossible to heal in combat. His organs are flipped, his right side being the average person's left side instead. After numerous malpractice lawsuits and a fierce fight to keep his career, Justin lost to his predetermined disposition and returned home to greet his younger sister, Tabitha, and his father's new wife. This is where his passion for law began.
At twenty-one, his mother passed away from cancer. Her battle was strong, but she was gone before Justin could give her what he called a "proper" good-bye. He came home during her very last day and for her funeral, but he shows remorse for never being there for his baby sister, Tabitha. During hypnosis therapy sessions, he admits that he had always aspired to be like his father, but a better version of the man. In a mission to show his mother and sister that he could make something of himself, he missed out on their most important days. The remorse got him suspended from the military on one occasion when he smuggled an obscene amount of alcohol onto the base. After that incident, he was dedicated again. The remorse, however, still remains in the fact that he never stayed to take care of Tabitha.
BRIEF AUTOBIOGRAPHY:
"I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, in the loving hands of my mother and under the stern watch of an honorably discharged patriot. Tabitha, my baby sister, had this belief that fun could only occur when we played in the mud, so I picked that up from her rather than the other way around. Before she came into my life, I was always trying to follow the rules. In fact, I was pushed up one grade after my first year because I was such a studious child. I certainly see that as a strength, but it did drain one year of my childhood away that I would have enjoyed.
"My mother and I were extremely close. Her name was Julia. Even when she was sick, she got up and cooked for us and made sure she was home as often as she could be. When she died, though, things really changed. I don't know, it was just hard on all of us. I had spent my entire childhood attempting to measure up to my father, but by doing that, I missed out on valuable time with my mother. In fact, I spent more time on my high school education than I did with her in our time together. I graduated in the top five, then went on to become a marine to show my father up. I suppose that was my real goal then, and a regret of mine is that I came home just in time for my mother's unfortunate passing. I hate to think about it."
Here, the patient pauses for a long time. Six and a half minutes pass before he clears his throat and continues.
"The majority of my maturity was developed within my training. I always followed the rules. After my mother died, I was tempted to break free of that. I dabbled in alcohol here and there, but it was nothing serious. Once I was whipped back into shape, I was once again focused. My dad, however, was the problem that came later. Soon after my mother's death, he found a woman named Elizabeth to marry. I knew it was hard on Tabitha, but I didn't come back until it was obviously too late. With each visit home for Christmas, I saw that something was happening to Tabitha that I couldn't explain. I didn't like the person she was, despite the unconditional love I must provide for her. And I can't help but blame myself for those years that I spent stationed in Okinawa while she was slowly deteriorating.
"When I was on my way to England, doctors discovered that I was unfit for combat. My body is a rare case of situs transversus, which means my organs are flipped across the sagittal plane."
The patient seems distant for a bit.
"Sorry. Anyway, that also was not easy. But when I came home, I decided to go back to what I loved most. Tabitha said LA was a good time, but we spent little time together while I was at UCLA to pick up my education. I had a full ride for my service, so I took advantage of it. That's where I met Jessica, my current wife. I went on to Vermont Law School when she went into insurance. She had our first kid when I finished law school, and we both agreed that we could move to Brunswick to be closer to our child's grandfather and step-grandmother. Her parents live in Maryland, which isn't too far a drive. The west coast was simply too far.
"I was able to make connections promptly, and the job of city attorney comes easily to me. The beginning of my career is marked by the discovery of my odd conditions; the lawsuits I filed to condemn the doctors who missed my obvious and destructive predisposition were my inspiration. I am now a political attorney.
"If you want to know why I'm here, it's because I have trouble sleeping. My conscience keeps me awake. The reason? I don't deserve this job. Honestly, I didn't make a high score on the LSATs. I failed each practice exam I took, so I cheated by getting someone else to go in my place with a fake ID. It was incredibly difficult to pull off, but I did it. I just can't sleep now. I have a nice career, I'm trying to grow close to my sister again, my wife is amazing and pregnant again, and I'm a father. But I can't sleep."
MENTAL STATUS EXAMINATION:
Results of the mental status examination show a sharp-witted, intelligent man with a passion for law. After he was honorably discharged, Morning made sure that he was fully educated and well-assimilated to civilian life. His passion was psychology first, but he was then further intrigued by industrial psychology. When he discusses his educational journey, he emphasizes the fact that he has always been thoroughly interested in the psychology of politics and debate. Although he was out of school during his service, he did not lose his passion in the classroom and in labs. The rigor he showed at UCLA was impressive and allowed him to continue at Vermont Law School, which is where he met his current wife. That was when he left Tabitha again to pursue his career while she was doing what she needed to do in order to support herself.
During his evaluation, Justin was clearly uncomfortable with discussing his mother's passing, his father's current condition, and his standing relationship with Tabitha. The marriage between her father and his wife, Elizabeth, was also a touchy subject for the patient. He shows a distaste for rushed relationships and discusses the way his wife has allowed him to move forward from his tumultuous past. However helpful she has been, it has not quelled his shame about leaving his sister to fend for himself. At the end of the third therapy session completed, he confessed that he cheated on his LSATS in order to finish his education and return to Tabitha's side.
RESULTS OF EVALUATION:
Results of administered tests reveal a mentally stable but secretive man who wishes to protect those around him. While some of his secrets are cause for concern, doctor-patient confidentiality must be noted, and any confessions made in hypnotic sessions must only be utilized for patient relief.
SUMMARY/RECOMMENDATIONS:
While Justin Morning harbors deeply personal emotional feelings regarding his past career, none of his actions have truly endangered another human being, his family, nor himself. His career, however, can be put to question if he is ever in need of psychological evaluations within court. Unfortunately, actions cannot be taken in order to promote his arrest or discourage such actions based on his lack of academic integrity. He is practically harmless otherwise.
