SINCLAIR 23 | STRAIGHT | SOCIALITE/UNEMPLOYED | LOCAL | BLAKE LIVELY i've always dreamed that my life could be like a fairy tale. a perfect fantasy. - cinderella from cinderella. November 29th. A cool, crisp, and clear morning. Even the burden of being over nine months pregnant, Christina Sinclair was not about to slow down. As a successful business woman, co-owner and head of the Sinclair's entire line of businesses, she was not about to let anything stop her from her morning routine, especially not today. Today was one of the most important meetings in the history of their franchise. Today would be the day when their line jumped to an entire new level. As Christina would soon learn, that was a lot of pressure for a day, especially when the typical day in the world of business was the furthest thing from smooth. It was quite unpredictable, which was exactly why the events of that day should have been predictable. Whatever went down in the boardroom that day was going to have to go on without Christina. As, at a quarter past nine that morning, just fifteen minutes after the board members of Sinclair industries had gathered to discuss the plan for the meeting that afternoon, her water broke. So, cursing all the way, Christina and her husband, were quick to flee the boardroom to deal with the new problem at hand. From the local Brunswick Hospital, at 10:53 on the morning of November 29th, Elsie Mae Sinclair, joined the world. Pretty green-blue eyes, a slight trace of light blond hair, and already rather large for her age, Elsie was the first addition to the Sinclair family. And, even if meant missing one of the most important meetings of their careers, looking down at their baby girl for the first time, Christina and David could not have been any happier. Well, until they found out that the meeting had gone exceptionally well that afternoon and Sinclair industries would be expanding even more. Between the birth of their first child and this long awaited news, Christina and David were on cloud nine. fathers have to learn that daughters have to grow. and if you truly love them, you must let them go. - king triton from the little mermaid. Staying on top of the business world and raising a small child turned out to be a more challenging task than Christina and David had anticipated. And, as all first time parents do, they had their share of faults. The world of business was the only thing that the Sinclair’s knew; it was a life style that they were born and raised in. So, their habits with their business flowed over into raising Elsie. The Sinclair’s treated Elsie almost as if she were an investment. They were loving parents, but they were also what many consider to be 'hover parents.' Just as they overlooked everything that went into each part of their business, they overlooked every detail of Elsie's life. It was their way of caring for her, but to anyone that would get old. Of course, as a young kid, Elsie didn't know any different. But, the older she got the more she started to resent it. How was she supposed to figure out who she was if her parents were always there? Always in the picture? Elsie couldn't count the number of times that their housekeeper, Evanna, told her it would all just pass with due time, that it was normal for parents. It would have to, wouldn't it? Surely, one couldn't be as involved in their business as the Sinclair’s were and also be all up in her business forever. ohana means family. and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. - lilo from lilo & stitch. Finally, a way to get some relief from her parents. Elsie was seven, going on eight, when the news came. Christina was having another baby. The nine months of the unexpected pregnancy seemed to go by in the blink of an eye. And, before the Sinclair’s new it, they were looking at the newest addition to their family. A baby girl. Elsie was four at this point in her life. A small bucketful of friends, full of energy and always on the go. From the get go, she took her baby sister under her wing. The older they got, the more it seemed as if her sister wanted to be just like her. Their parents were still very overprotective, still very much helicopter parents. But, the business was taking another leap, which kept them out of their hair a bit. Like any siblings, Elsie and her sister fought. But, even Elsie had to admit that it was nice to have someone to distract her parents from her doings, especially as she hit her teenage years. No one wants their parents all in their business at that point in their life, especially not Elsie. talk about her. she's smart, fun. the hair. the eyes. anything. pick a feature. - genie from aladdin. The older you get, the more you develop and find yourself. Elsie was no exception. She spent her high school years almost feeling trapped in her parent's overseeing ways. She knew they cared, she respected that. But, Elsie wanted to be different. She didn't want to be a business person's daughter. She didn't want to be trapped on the leash, trying to watch what she did because she knew her parents would find out. She wanted to be someone totally different. So, by the time high school came around, Elsie made it her goal to stand out. It started with simple things. She had always been a bubbly girl, very outgoing and very sociable. She could talk to anyone about anything for hours, and genuinely liked to be around people. She started frequenting parties, not so much because she was into hard core partying, but more so because she liked the sociableness of it all. Plus, a part of her was curious to see just how much she could get away with, just how far she could push it. It was the first time in her life that she could take a real risk, and Elsie wanted to explore that. She'd always been a curious girl, and she knew that was going to get her into trouble someday. But, the first taste of freedom is hard to pass up. i can't forget about my heart and how it felt to fall for you right from the start. - jasmine from aladdin. Ah, the first boyfriend. Or fling, depending on how you looked at it. He was a year older than Elsie, a seemingly confident junior, while she was an overly zealous sophomore. It was winter break, a large house party that, as teens seem to put it, 'anyone who is anyone' was at. Even if Brunswick wasn't a huge town, it was the first time Elsie and the boy had met. They danced, talked, had a good time, eventually leading up to them spending the night together with the expectation that they'd never really talk or see each other again. As it would end up, the two hooked up a few more times throughout high school, genuinely enjoying each others company but never really bothering to take it to the next level. Once the boy graduated, however, that was the last Elsie heard from him, or really thought of him at that point. you're never too old to be young - snow white from snow white. Flash forward several years now. Elsie graduated high school, eventually going on to disappoint her parents on their high expectations in the fact that she wasn't going to the Harvard Business College. She had kept average grades throughout school, but nothing spectacular as she'd never really liked school for anything beyond the social aspect. Honestly, upon graduation, Elsie just planned to wing it. Her parents were well off, she could live on their money. She'd never been a planner, and she really didn't see the problem with it. That didn't work for Christina and David, however. They were both planners, more aware of Elsie's high school partying and slacking than she seemed to realize. Elsie really had never had a serious boyfriend. Some flings, some dates, some dances, but nothing serious. She didn't have a job, seemed to have no intentions of doing so, and that wasn't something her parents were fine with. She graduated high school at eighteen, and Christina and David let her try to figure out her own career path for two years after that. Both of them were secretly hoping she'd end up in business school after all, surprising them. But, by the time Elsie turned twenty, little had changed. All Elsie had decided was that she loved to bake, but that wasn't enough to please her parents. And so that's where they stepped in. no one should marry a person they don't love. - shang from mulan. It was a simple idea. Traditional and practical just like her parents. Elsie needed a man. A man who was successful, level headed, someone who was going to steer her back into the business world and show her that it could be interesting and fun like she wanted it to be. And, they knew just the man. He was the son of one of the Sinclair’s business partners. Elsie was twenty, he was twenty-two, so they were close enough in age that it could work. And, the best part of all, was that he had a business degree, intending to go right in the direction of his parents. A pretty face, it seemed almost fate, and before Elsie really knew what was going on, she found herself in a relationship with this boy. And, surprisingly, she did like him. Not that she had a choice, since her parents had mostly made up their minds. And, he genuinely seemed to like her. They dated for two years, ending up engaged shortly after. He was her first serious relationship, and they were young. But she liked him. Love, however, was a strong word. And that would be where her biggest secret started to develop. a lie keeps growing until it's as plain as the nose on your face. - pinocchio from pinocchio. They were the happy couple, engaged, meant to be together, or so they made it seem. They visited the wedding planner, planning for the most extravagant wedding that money could buy. And that's where the drama started. Elsie had one of the best wedding planners in the town, spending much more time with the woman than people typically did with wedding planners. So, it was only inevitable that they would meet. Or, rather, meet again. The wedding planner had a brother who brought her lunch one day. Elsie was there, discussing wedding details with the woman when he arrived. Meeting gazes, Elsie almost instantly recognized him. He was the boy she had been hooking up with high school. The first boy that she could recall having true feelings for. The only one to ever make her feel so alive. Sitting there, she realized that even her fiancee never made her feel that way. And, against her better judgment but going right with her outspoken personality, she asked him to meet her for lunch. Just like high schoolers, the two hit it off. And, so it happened. Once again, she was hooking up with the boy. The problem? She was an engaged woman. you're only in trouble if you get caught. i'm in trouble. - aladdin from aladdin. Now, Elsie has herself questioning the marriage. Her fiance is a great man and she fears her parents reactions if they were to know her secret. She knows they'd want to kill her, resorting in ways that she wants to avoid. But, at the same time, she knows she doesn't feel the way about her fiancee that she feels about her fling. At this point, she plans to just cover it up, and go on being happy. It's easier for everyone that way, right? BEHIND THE MASK LYNN | 19 | USA EASTERN | CAUTION 2.0 | NONE (YET) "... I mean it, you really outdid yourself. The safari theme was so cute! And don't even get me started on..." Addie shifted awkwardly, leaning against the open door as her mother's best friend, Karen, gabbed on and on to her mother. Her baby shower had come to a close a while ago. But Karen, as always, remained here long after the rest of the crowd had drifted out. Karen and her mother had plans of some sort now, but it seemed that they would never leave. Addie really just wanted them to go already. She was sick of the baby shower, sick of the baby talk, and just sick of everything. Half of Lipton showed up here it seemed, and, though she knew she should be grateful, Addie had issues with being happy for it. It was great of so many of them to show up, it really was, but none of them really mattered that much to her. She had spent the entire baby shower glaring at a stuffed giraffe that her mother had sat on the chair next to her. A chair that had originally been set out for Mikayla. How could she just not show up to her twin sister's baby shower? They had been having some rough patches lately, sure, but was that really any excuse? Addie would have shown up if their situations had been reversed. Or, at least, she liked to think that she would have shown up. Mikayla was a lot more dedicated to the family than she was, so Addie really didn't get it. What was Kayla's problem? Had she really done anything that bad? She had slept with some guy that Kayla had dated. They weren't together at the time. She had him first. Kayla should have known better than to fall for a partier... Addie's small debate in her head came to an abrupt stop as she felt a sharp elbow to her side. "Adelaide." Her mother's voice came sharp and Addie quickly turned to glare at her mother. "Karen asked you a question." Seeing Karen's gaze staring at her, the teen gave a forced smile. What could she have possibly asked? "Sorry, I... what?" Addie could hear her mother give an exasperated sigh from next to her, but Karen just brushed it off, repeating her words once more.Everything from 'take care of yourself' to 'what did you say you were naming the baby' and then back to 'get plenty of sleep!' came. Addie forced a smile once more, repositioning herself by the door and casually opening it a little wider as she did so. "Savannah. Her name is Savannah." Karen giggled with delight, commenting on the cuteness of the name once more as she turned to leave with Addie's mother. Addie didn't even bother to nod, instead just waving as the two women made their way down the sidewalk. Once they had piled into Karen's car, Addie stepped back from the door. "Thank god." The door slammed rather harshly now as Addie started back down the littered hallway. Various strips of safari and baby themed wrapping papers littered the entire downstairs. What wasn't covered in wrapping paper was covered in various baby necessities, scraps of food, or confetti. Her mother had gone all out on this baby shower. Addie couldn't help but to groan inwardly at the idea of cleaning it all up later. It would take weeks. But, that's what her brother, dad, and sister were for. Her brother and dad would be home later in the day from their fishing trip and they could deal with the mess. It was no longer her problem. So, her gaze shifted up stairs. Mikayla still hadn't bothered to come downstairs and it was really starting to annoy her. It was just the two of them now. At any other time this would have been no big deal, but right now it was. Addie trudged up the stairs rather quickly. Then, made the short walk down the hallway to where the doors to her room, Mikayla's room, and their bathroom were neatly lined. She paused there for just a second, momentarily considering her actions. One part of her, the lesser part, was telling her to just keep walking to her own bedroom and to just ignore Kayla. She would come to her senses. The other part, and the more dominant part of Addie's personality, was telling her to barge in. Just let Mikayla have it. With each passing second, Addie found the second part winning out over the first. And, so, without any further hesitation, Addie shoved open the door to Mikayla's room and stepped in. "What was so freaking important that you couldn't be bothered to show up to my baby shower?" |
